FOR SALE
I am getting out of horses completely so have made the decision to put Allie up for sale.
Allie
GRADE Mare
19-20 year old in good health
14.2 h and very stout
Light riding only – walk/trot/trail horse
$1200 (negotiable)
If you are looking for a walk/trot horse or light trail horse Allie may be a good match.
Pros –
Point and go – will go over, under, through any place she’s pointed -
Water, bridges, trees, hock deep mud. Literally any place. You just let her have her head and hang on.
Rides in a snaffle with definitely more whoa than go
Has a lot of buttons when she’s being rode (pivot, half and side pass)
Loads, unloads well,
Good for cares
Cons –
Needs boots or shoes for anything but arena work
Light riding only – I think she was rode pretty hard when she was younger and has some arthritis. I've been able to manage this with shoes and light riding. It may be manageable with ongoing medication too, I just haven't looked into it since I no longer ride.
Can be pushy but a light correction is all it takes to remind her what she should be doing
Can be cinchy – if you tighten the girth a little at a time she’s fine
Will dance when tacking if she hasn’t been rode in a while
Can be hard to catch if she’s been rode hard
When I purchased Allie I was told that anyone in America can ride her but she's not for a beginner and that description fits her perfectly. She's super quiet under saddle, not spooky, and easy to get along with but is pushy (and reactive if you "get after her" on the ground) and requires someone that knows how to handle a horse.
Allie has a lot to offer the right home. She’s been a fantastic trail horse for me. You can literally drop your reins and just enjoy being outside. She will lead or follow and I can’t remember the last time she spooked at anything (when she does she’s never done more than startle). When I’ve rode her alone she will look at things and feels like a powder keg ready to blow but she’s never actually done anything but yell for friends. With a group she doesn’t care if she gets left behind and just keeps on walking in her turtle slow pace. In the last few years I’ve only rode her w/t (her canter isn’t smooth). She moves off leg more than actually neck reins. Has been used to pony babies (she’s not great at it), and isn’t thrilled with cows but I think would get over this with a little exposure. Good around dogs, no kick or buck. She’s never reared under saddle but will go up a few inches if you get after her on the ground. She WILL bite if you tighten the saddle hard (but is fine if you tighten a little at a time). Easy keeper and has lived outside with shelter for the past 9 years. I will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
